Durham Regional Police are asking for the public’s help identifying two suspects connected to a $10,000 cosmetic theft in Ajax that took place at a local pharmacy before Christmas.

The incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, at a Shoppers Drug Mart located at 15 Westney Road in Ajax, according to police. Investigators say a man and a woman entered the store during the evening and managed to access a storage area inside the business.

Police report the suspects were inside the store between approximately 7:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. During that time, the pair allegedly entered a storage room and removed four boxes filled with cosmetic products.

Authorities estimate the value of the stolen cosmetics to be more than $10,000.

After taking the items, the suspects reportedly left the store through an emergency exit door before fleeing the area.

Durham Regional Police say investigators are now working to identify the two individuals involved and are asking residents for assistance.

According to police descriptions, the first suspect is a white male who was wearing a grey beanie hat, grey scarf, black winter jacket, black joggers and beige shoes at the time of the incident.

The second suspect is a white female who was dressed in a black jacket, black leggings and black winter boots. Police say she was also carrying a small black backpack.

Investigators believe the suspects may have been in the area for some time and are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity around the store to come forward.

Police are specifically asking residents and drivers who were near the Westney Road area between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on December 14 to review any video recordings that may help identify the suspects.

This includes cell phone footage, dash cam recordings or surveillance camera video that may show the suspects entering or leaving the area.

Retail theft has become an increasing concern for many businesses across Ontario, with organized shoplifting operations often targeting high-value items such as cosmetics, electronics and luxury goods.

Police say storage areas inside stores can sometimes be targeted because they may contain larger quantities of merchandise.

Durham Regional Police investigators continue to gather evidence related to the $10,000 cosmetic theft in Ajax and are hoping members of the public may have information that could assist with the investigation.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Constable Eswaranathan of the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch.

Police can be reached by calling 1-888-579-1520 extension 2544.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by submitting information online.

Crime Stoppers notes that individuals who provide information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.

Durham Regional Police continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity and assist with investigations whenever possible.
