Durham Regional Police have recovered an additional $130,000 worth of electronics and merchandise as part of an ongoing investigation into a large-scale Amazon theft and fraud case valued at approximately $2 million.
Police said the investigation began in November when members of the Financial Crimes Unit launched a probe involving two employees at an Amazon Fulfillment Centre located on Salem Road. The investigation followed information received from Amazon’s Loss Prevention team, alleging the employees were responsible for stealing merchandise over a two-year period.
On Tuesday, December 23, investigators executed a search warrant at a storage locker in Newmarket. During the search, police recovered a significant quantity of stolen electronics and merchandise, adding an estimated $130,000 to the total value of goods seized.
A 36-year-old man from Newmarket is now facing additional charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000. Police said he was released on an undertaking. Further details are available through Durham Regional Police.
