A Pickering Head On Collision has left one man dead and another in life threatening condition following a serious crash on Brock Road.
Durham Regional Police responded to the collision on Brock Road, north of Taunton Road, shortly after 8 a.m. on February 27. According to investigators, a Toyota sedan was travelling southbound when it lost control, crossed into the northbound lanes and collided head on with a GMC pick up truck.
The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles.
An 18 year old passenger in the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. A 21 year old passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was transported to a Toronto trauma centre where he remains in life threatening condition.
Two additional occupants of the Toyota, a 58 year old male passenger and a 42 year old female driver, were transported to a local hospital. Police confirmed both remain in stable condition.
The 56 year old driver of the GMC pick up truck was assessed at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.
The Pickering Head On Collision resulted in the closure of Brock Road for several hours as members of the Durham Regional Police Service Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene and collected evidence.
Investigators continue to work to determine what caused the Toyota to lose control and cross into opposing traffic. Weather conditions and road surface conditions have not yet been officially identified as contributing factors.
Police are appealing to the public for assistance. Fatal collisions remain a serious concern across Durham Region, particularly on high traffic roadways such as Brock Road and Taunton Road.
