An Oshawa man faces multiple fraud charges after attempting to purchase a $200,000 Land Rover SUV in Oakville using fraudulent identification, Halton Police report.
According to authorities, Ambady Sajeev, 27, visited Budd’s Imported Cars on Wyecroft Road on December 11, agreeing to buy the high-end vehicle with a future delivery date. Budd’s staff later determined the ID provided by Sajeev was fraudulent.
Halton Police’s Financial Crime Unit launched an investigation, resulting in Sajeev’s arrest on December 16. Officers found him in possession of multiple fake documents, including Canadian SIN cards, driver’s licences, and birth certificates.
Sajeev has been charged with:
- Fraud over $5,000
- Identity fraud
- Probation breach
He was released on a promise to appear, with a future court date in Milton.
Detective Sergeant Jared McLeod of the Financial Crimes Unit credited Budd’s staff for detecting the fraudulent ID, noting that “vehicle theft can take many forms,” and emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in holding offenders accountable.
