An Oshawa High School Student Assault is under investigation after a teenager was attacked by several suspects near an Oshawa high school earlier this week.
Durham Regional Police say officers were called to Eastdale Collegiate Institute on Tuesday afternoon following reports of a violent fight involving multiple individuals.
The Oshawa High School Student Assault reportedly began after an argument at the school and escalated into a physical attack near a nearby intersection.
Police say the victim was struck with a metal weapon and then assaulted by five male suspects following the earlier confrontation.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. near Harmony Road and Adelaide Avenue in Oshawa.
A school liaison officer responded to the scene after the injured student managed to escape the attack and seek assistance from school staff.
By the time police arrived at the location, the five suspects involved in the Oshawa High School Student Assault had already fled the area.
Emergency responders assessed the victim, who suffered serious but non life threatening injuries as a result of the attack.
Investigators say the circumstances leading up to the assault are still being examined.
Durham Regional Police have launched an investigation to identify and locate the suspects responsible for the Oshawa High School Student Assault.
Officers are now appealing to members of the public for assistance.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have cell phone video, dashcam footage or surveillance recordings from the area is asked to contact investigators.
Police believe that additional information from the public could help identify the suspects involved.
Detective Micallef of the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch is currently leading the investigation.
