An early-morning Oshawa Cordova Road fire sent one person to hospital and temporarily shut down a major roadway in the city on Tuesday.
Emergency crews responded to the Oshawa Cordova Road fire just south of Highway 401 and east of Park Road South shortly after 6 a.m. Oshawa Fire Services confirmed the blaze was actively burning when crews arrived.
Durham Regional Police said one individual was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the Oshawa Cordova Road fire.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before 7 a.m., but remained at the scene to conduct overhaul operations and air quality testing inside the building. Officials have not yet confirmed the type of structure involved.
Cordova Road was closed in both directions between Oxford Street and Park Road South during the emergency response. The roadway has since reopened.
The cause of the Oshawa Cordova Road fire remains under investigation.
