Durham Regional Police have arrested one man and are actively searching for a second suspect in connection with Durham Region’s ninth homicide of the year.
Police say that on Tuesday, December 23, at approximately 4:15 a.m., officers from Central East Division responded to an emergency call near the intersection of Park Road South and John Street in Oshawa. Upon arrival, officers found a 44-year-old man suffering from stab wounds on the roadway.
The victim, identified as Jeremy Russel, was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.
Later that same day, investigators located and arrested one suspect believed to be involved in the stabbing. A second suspect, described as a 44-year-old man from Oshawa, remains at large.
Police stated that the victim, the arrested individual, and the wanted suspect were all known to one another. Authorities are warning the public that the outstanding suspect is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone who sees him is urged to call 911 immediately.
Investigators are also encouraging the suspect to contact legal counsel and surrender to police. Police warned that anyone assisting the suspect in avoiding arrest could face charges under the Criminal Code of Canada.
