Clarington, a growing municipality in Durham Region, is set to welcome its new Fire Chief, Bradley Lamport, on March 30, 2026, following his promotion from Deputy Chief. Lamport, who has been with Clarington Emergency and Fire Services since February 2024, brings over two decades of experience in the fire service, including 18 years with the Markham Fire Department in various leadership roles.
The announcement was made by Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster, who expressed confidence in Lamport’s leadership. “Clarington Council is pleased to congratulate Brad as he steps into the role of Fire Chief. His proven leadership will help ensure our growing community continues to receive outstanding fire protection and emergency response services,” Foster said.
Lamport, who resides on a small farm in Kawartha Lakes, takes on his new role at a time when Clarington is experiencing significant growth. The municipality has seen an increase in both residential and commercial developments, which in turn demands more from its emergency services. Lamport, whose two of his three sons are following his footsteps as firefighters in Richmond Hill and Markham, said, “I am deeply honoured and genuinely excited to step into the role of Fire Chief for the Municipality of Clarington. Clarington Emergency and Fire Services has a proud legacy of outstanding service, and I look forward to working alongside the dedicated personnel of this department.”
The promotion comes after Mariano Perini served as Interim Fire Chief following the retirement of David Speed in the fall of 2025. Mayor Foster acknowledged Perini’s valuable contributions during this transition period, noting his leadership in managing both public works and fire services, ensuring continuity of operations and organizational stability.
Lamport’s appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the department, which serves a rapidly expanding population. With his leadership, Clarington Emergency and Fire Services is poised to continue providing high-quality services to its community. Lamport emphasized his eagerness to embrace the opportunities and challenges ahead, stating that as the community grows, he will work closely with his team to ensure they deliver exceptional service.
“I look forward to learning, collaborating, and ensuring we continue to provide exceptional service while addressing the needs of our growing community,” Lamport added.
The announcement has been met with positive feedback from both the public and fire services personnel, who are looking forward to working under Lamport’s guidance. His leadership will play a crucial role in ensuring Clarington’s fire services remain responsive and effective as the municipality continues to develop.
As Clarington prepares to welcome its new Fire Chief, the focus will be on ensuring that emergency services can continue to meet the demands of an evolving and expanding community. Lamport’s promotion marks a new chapter for the municipality’s fire services, with a focus on building on its proud legacy while tackling new challenges.
