A man previously arrested in connection with a homicide in Peterborough has now been formally charged in a separate murder investigation in Oshawa.
Michael Waterman, 44, who was taken into custody on Boxing Day and charged with second-degree murder in the December 6 killing of a Peterborough man, has been charged in the December 23 stabbing death of Jeremy Russell in Oshawa.
Waterman was arrested on December 26 after Peterborough Regional Police’s Emergency Response Unit learned he was in the city and attended a residence near Dalhousie Street and Aylmer Street. Police said Waterman exited the residence and surrendered without incident. He was held in custody and appeared in court in Peterborough that weekend.
On Monday, the Durham Regional Police homicide unit took custody of Waterman and laid a second-degree murder charge in connection with Russell’s death.
Russell, 44, was found with stab wounds outside a home on Park Road, north of John Street, in Oshawa during the early morning hours of December 23. He was transported to a Toronto trauma centre in life-threatening condition and later pronounced dead.
Police have also charged Nicholas Robbins, 33, with second-degree murder in connection with the same incident.
