Travellers heading through Toronto Pearson International Airport on Friday are being advised to check their flight status and allow extra time, as winter weather continues to disrupt air travel across southern Ontario.
According to Environment Canada, snowfall amounts will vary across the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions. Toronto and areas east of the city, including Durham Region, are expected to receive 8 to 12 centimetres of snow, while areas west of Toronto — such as Mississauga, Halton, Brampton and Hamilton — could see 5 to 10 centimetres.
Flight tracking service FlightAware reported significant disruptions at Pearson Airport as of 10:30 a.m., with:
- 157 flight delays
- 64 flight cancellations
Of those disruptions, 53 delays and 41 cancellations involved flights travelling within, to, or from the United States. Average departure delays were reported at approximately 35 minutes, though officials noted conditions were gradually improving.
Despite flight disruptions, Pearson Airport’s website indicates that security and customs wait times remain normal, with screening times between 0 and 5 minutes at Terminals 1 and 3 for domestic, international, and U.S.-bound departures.
Environment Canada warns that roads and walkways may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow and reduced visibility. Travellers and residents are encouraged to delay non-essential travel and exercise caution as conditions continue to evolve throughout the day.
