Veteran Oshawa Regional Councillor Tito-Dante Marimpietri has officially announced his intention to run for mayor of Oshawa in the upcoming municipal election, becoming the first candidate to enter the race.
Marimpietri has served on Oshawa City Council since 2003, with the exception of a four-year term between 2014 and 2018. He is seeking to succeed Mayor Dan Carter, who has confirmed he will not seek re-election.
In announcing his candidacy, Marimpietri said his vision is to restore Oshawa as a strong economic centre while maintaining affordability, strengthening neighbourhoods, and ensuring the city works for residents of all ages and backgrounds.
“For more than two decades, I’ve worked to diversify our local economy and help build a resilient city,” he said. “I’ve collaborated with all levels of government, worked alongside industry leaders, and delivered results when others said it couldn’t be done.”
Marimpietri outlined priorities that include improved transit, expanded and age-friendly parks and green spaces, a thriving downtown core, and safe, sustainable neighbourhoods stretching from the city’s northern communities to the waterfront.
Calling his decision more than a New Year’s resolution, Marimpietri described his mayoral bid as a commitment to applying his experience and leadership to guide Oshawa forward.
