Cold winter conditions will continue across southern Ontario on Friday, January 2, with flurries and biting wind chills making it feel closer to −19 C in some areas.

Morning skies will be partly cloudy, limiting views of the 7:50 a.m. sunrise for early risers.

In Mississauga, Brampton and Halton, a mix of sun and cloud is expected throughout the day, along with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. Daytime highs will reach −3 C, while wind chill values will feel closer to −17 C in the morning, improving to around −9 C by the afternoon.

Hamilton will remain mostly cloudy with a 70 per cent chance of flurries and a cooler high of −6 C. Wind chills will hover near −15 C.

In Durham Region, skies will start with a mix of sun and cloud before becoming overcast by midday. A 60 per cent chance of snow is expected by late afternoon. Temperatures will rise to −4 C, with wind chills improving from −18 C in the morning to about −8 C later in the day.

Sunset is expected at 4:49 p.m.

Overnight conditions will remain cold across the region.

  • Mississauga and Brampton will become partly cloudy with lows near −11 C, and wind chills dropping to −18 C.
  • Halton will stay mostly cloudy, with overnight lows around −11 C and wind chills between −12 C and −19 C.
  • Hamilton will dip to −10 C, with wind chills near −17 C.
  • Durham will see mostly cloudy skies with a 40 per cent chance of early evening flurries, overnight lows of −12 C, and wind chills reaching −19 C.
