A 47-year-old woman suffered life-altering injuries after stopping to help a vehicle that had left the roadway, triggering a three-vehicle collision in Beaverton early Thursday morning.
According to Durham Regional Police, the crash occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on Regional Road 23, just north of Thorah Concession Road 2.
Investigators say a Dodge minivan had gone off the road, prompting the woman to stop and offer assistance. While she was outside her vehicle, a northbound Mazda sedan struck her and pinned her against her Dodge pickup truck. The Mazda then collided with the minivan before coming to rest in a ditch.
The woman was airlifted by Ornge to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where she remains in stable condition despite sustaining serious injuries.
The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. No charges have been announced at this time.
