A family evening in Oshawa was disrupted after a handgun was discharged inside a residence, prompting a police investigation and the arrest of a 21-year-old man.
Durham Regional Police say officers from East Division responded to a call for an armed person around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, in the area of Beatrice Street East and Grandview Street North.
According to police, homeowners reported hearing a loud bang inside their residence and later discovered a bullet. Further investigation revealed that a visiting male had allegedly fired a handgun inside the home before fleeing the area on foot.
Officers were able to identify the suspect and later attended his residence, where he was taken into custody without incident. Police then executed a search warrant, which resulted in the seizure of two handguns, a rifle, and ammunition.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
The 21-year-old Oshawa man has been charged and is currently being held for a bail hearing. Police say the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are anticipated. The accused’s name and further details are available through the Durham Regional Police Service.
