Following the confrontation, officers discovered a firearm that had been left behind on the ground near the scene of the fight. After examining the weapon, police confirmed that it was an imitation handgun, not a real firearm.

Although the discovery of the weapon raised concerns among those attending the tournament, police confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the altercation. Authorities also indicated that there was no immediate ongoing threat to the public.

Durham Regional Police believe the incident appears to be an isolated situation, though investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the fight and the weapon that was recovered.

The basketball event was part of a high school tournament being held at the Durham College Athletic Complex, a facility frequently used for sports competitions, community events, and school athletics in Oshawa and the surrounding Durham Region.

Police say the presence of officers at the event allowed them to respond quickly once the disturbance began. Investigators are now working to identify the individuals who were involved in the altercation and determine what led to the fight.

Authorities are asking anyone who attended the basketball game or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with information. Investigators are particularly interested in cell phone recordings, dash camera footage, or surveillance video that may show the altercation or capture images of the suspects leaving the area.

Durham Regional Police are also reviewing available security footage from inside the facility and surrounding areas as part of their investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Lemanis of the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch.

Police can be reached by calling 1-888-579-1520 extension 2738.

Individuals who wish to remain anonymous can submit information through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting the Crime Stoppers website online.

Crime Stoppers tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Durham Regional Police continue to investigate the incident and are encouraging anyone with information to assist officers as they work to identify the suspects and determine the circumstances that led to the altercation.
