Drivers across Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are expected to see some relief at the pumps as gas prices are forecast to fall overnight.
According to fuel price tracking website GasWizard, the price of regular gasoline is expected to drop by seven cents per litre, bringing the average price in the Toronto area to approximately $1.539 per litre.
The anticipated decrease follows a period of volatility in fuel prices, which have been influenced by ongoing developments in the global oil market, including geopolitical tensions and fluctuations in supply and demand.
The expected price reduction will benefit motorists across several communities in the Greater Toronto Area, including Durham Region cities such as Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering and Whitby, where drivers have seen prices rise sharply in recent days.
Over the past week, both gasoline and diesel prices increased significantly, placing additional pressure on commuters and businesses that rely on transportation.
The upcoming price drop is expected to provide temporary relief for drivers who have been paying higher fuel costs at stations across southern Ontario.
In addition to the decrease in regular gasoline prices, premium gasoline is also expected to fall by seven cents per litre, bringing the average price to approximately $1.839 per litre.
Diesel prices, which recently climbed above $2 per litre in parts of the region, are forecast to see an even larger reduction.
According to GasWizard’s forecast, diesel prices are expected to drop by 13 cents per litre, lowering the average price to around $1.859 per litre.
Fuel prices often change quickly due to fluctuations in global oil markets, currency exchange rates and refining costs. In recent weeks, uncertainty related to international conflicts and supply concerns has contributed to increased volatility in energy markets.
Oil prices can also be affected by factors such as production decisions by major oil-producing countries, shipping disruptions and seasonal demand changes.
For drivers across the GTA, even small changes in fuel prices can have a noticeable impact on transportation costs, especially for those who commute long distances.
Many residents in Durham Region travel daily to Toronto and other parts of the GTA for work, making fuel price changes particularly important for household budgets.
The price adjustment expected overnight reflects normal market movements as retailers respond to changes in wholesale fuel prices.
However, experts note that gas prices can continue to fluctuate depending on global oil supply, economic conditions and political developments.
Motorists planning to refuel may wish to monitor local fuel prices throughout the week, as further changes could occur depending on market conditions.
While the gas price drop in the Toronto area may provide some short-term relief, drivers are likely to continue experiencing price swings as energy markets remain uncertain.
