A cookie dough product sold in Ontario has been recalled after a consumer reported an allergic reaction, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The recalled item is Iron Kettle brand ginger molasses cookie dough. The product is sold in a 1-kilogram package, does not carry a UPC code, and was distributed within Ontario.
CFIA stated the recall was issued because the product contains egg, an allergen that was not declared on the label. All packages of the product where egg is not listed as an ingredient are affected.
The recall was triggered following a consumer complaint, and CFIA confirmed that one allergic reaction has been reported in connection with the product. The Iron Kettle Commissary is identified as the recalling firm.
A food safety investigation is currently underway, and CFIA noted that additional products could be recalled if necessary. The agency is also verifying that the recalled cookie dough is being removed from store shelves.
Consumers are advised to check their freezers and avoid consuming the product if they are allergic or sensitive to egg. CFIA warns that consuming undeclared allergens can lead to serious or life-threatening reactions. Affected products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
