Movie lovers across Durham Region can now get their favourite Cineplex popcorn at a fraction of the regular price thanks to a new partnership between the theatre chain and the food surplus platform Too Good To Go.
The deal, announced Wednesday, allows Canadians to purchase surprise bags of Cineplex concessions through the Too Good To Go app at significantly reduced prices, while also helping to divert good food from going to waste.
Two surprise bag options are available at participating Cineplex theatres across Canada, both sold exclusively as takeout. The popcorn surprise bag features Cineplex’s iconic popcorn for just $5.99, with a retail value of up to $18. The concession surprise bag offers a variety mix that may include a combination of popcorn, nachos, and hot dogs for $8.99, with a retail value of up to $27.
Kevin Watts of Cineplex said the partnership gives Canadians a whole new way to enjoy the chain’s iconic treats. Customers can pick up a surprise bag of snacks from Cineplex and enjoy it wherever the day takes them, all while ensuring surplus items are fully enjoyed rather than thrown away.
For Durham Region residents, the deal is available at Cineplex locations in Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, and Pickering. To take advantage of the offer, customers simply need to open the Too Good To Go app, find a nearby participating Cineplex theatre, and reserve the surprise bag of their choice. The bag can then be picked up during the designated collection window at the theatre.
Chris MacAulay, vice president of operations for Too Good To Go North America, said the partnership allows Canadians to access their favourite Cineplex concession snacks at a greater value while also demonstrating how businesses can meet evolving consumer needs and take meaningful action on food waste.
The Cineplex popcorn cheaper Canada deal comes at a time when moviegoers have been increasingly frustrated by rising concession prices at theatres. A large popcorn at Cineplex typically costs around $12 or more, making the $5.99 surprise bag a substantial saving for families and individuals looking to enjoy the cinema experience without breaking the bank.
The Too Good To Go app has been growing in popularity across Canada, partnering with restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, and now entertainment venues to sell surplus food at discounted prices rather than letting it go to waste. The platform’s mission aligns with growing consumer interest in sustainability and reducing food waste.
Durham Region residents looking to grab a bag of Cineplex popcorn cheaper Canada deal can download the Too Good To Go app from the App Store or Google Play and search for their nearest participating theatre location.
