Several changes to toll rates, fees, and driver programs on Highway 407 ETR came into effect on January 1, 2026, impacting motorists across Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area.
Updated Toll Rates and Fees
Highway 407 ETR has implemented new toll pricing, with increases during peak travel periods when the highway experiences the highest traffic volumes. According to the operator, tolls remain unchanged in zones with lighter congestion, while some central sections nearing capacity during afternoon rush hour have seen increases of up to 34 cents per kilometre for light vehicles.
The highway has also adjusted certain travel time periods, extending higher peak rates in some cases and modifying off-peak pricing. For most drivers with a personal transponder, the changes are expected to result in an average monthly increase of about $5, depending on usage and travel times.
The annual transponder lease fee has increased to $31.50 plus tax, up from $29.50. New toll rates also apply to motorcycles, medium vehicles, heavy single-unit vehicles, and heavy multi-unit vehicles.
Expanded Support for Low-Income Drivers
The Route Relief Program has been expanded, allowing eligible low-income Ontario residents to receive up to eight free trips per month, an increase from the previous six. Since its launch in November 2024, the program has provided more than $1 million in free travel to over 2,800 drivers.
Additional Programs in 2026
Highway 407 ETR has also announced plans to introduce a loyalty points program later this year, while continuing various driving promotions throughout 2026.
Drivers are encouraged to review the updated toll schedules and eligibility requirements directly through the highway’s official channels before planning their trips.
