Several Beer Store locations across Ontario have permanently closed as the company continues to adjust to the province’s expanded alcohol retail marketplace, including one store in Whitby and another scheduled to close in Oshawa.
Three Beer Store locations closed permanently over the weekend, according to the company. Those locations include:
-
15 Hops Drive in Haliburton
-
17250 Highway 27 in Schomberg
-
3950 Brock Street North in Whitby
An additional Beer Store location is set to close this coming Sunday at 150 Midtown Drive in Oshawa.
In a statement, Ozzie Ahmed, vice president of retail for The Beer Store, said the closures are part of broader operational changes.
“The Beer Store is evolving operations to meet the changing needs of a modernized retail market,” Ahmed said. “Unfortunately, this includes making the difficult decision to close retail locations. We know this is difficult news for consumers, recyclers, and our employees.”
The closures come amid ongoing changes to Ontario’s alcohol marketplace, which has seen expanded retail options beyond traditional Beer Store locations.
