Durham Student Transportation Services has cancelled all school bus service across the region today due to poor road conditions caused by winter weather. The cancellations apply to every weather zone in Durham Region, including Zone 1 (Brock), Zone 2 (Uxbridge), Zone 3 (Scugog) and Zone 4 (Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa).
Despite the cancellations, all schools remain open and classes are continuing as scheduled. Families who rely on bus service will need to arrange alternate transportation if students are attending in person.
Buses will not operate in any zone during the morning or afternoon periods. This is a full-day cancellation rather than a partial or delayed start.
Durham Student Transportation Services advises families to check their weather zones if they are unsure which schools fall under which area. Schools are grouped by municipality, and zone listings are available on the DSTS website.
Zones include:
Zone 1 covers Brock Township (Beaverton, Cannington, Sunderland)
Zone 2 covers Uxbridge Township
Zone 3 covers Scugog Township (Port Perry and surrounding areas)
Zone 4 covers southern Durham Region (Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa)
Weather-related bus cancellations are not uncommon during periods of heavy snowfall or icy conditions.
Municipal road crews were active through the night, but parts of the region continue to experience difficult driving conditions during the morning commute.
For more information, including school zone listings and transportation updates, families can visit the Durham Student Transportation Services website.
Updates on road conditions continue to evolve through the day as crews work to clear and salt major routes.
