An Ajax school gun incident has resulted in charges against a 17-year-old student after police located a firearm, drugs, and a prohibited extended magazine at a secondary school.
On Tuesday, February 10, at approximately 10:55 a.m., members of Durham Regional Police Service West Division responded to Father Donald Maclellan Catholic Secondary School on Fairall Street in Ajax after receiving information that a student may have been in possession of a firearm.
Officers located the male student and took him into custody without incident. Police say drugs and a firearm equipped with a prohibited extended magazine were found in his possession.
Investigators also confirmed the youth was already bound by a weapons prohibition order at the time of his arrest.
The 17-year-old from Ajax faces multiple charges. He was held for a bail hearing and remanded to a youth detention facility.
Police are asking anyone with information about the Ajax school gun incident to contact Det. Brown of the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1905.
This marks the third recent school-related police response in Durham Region, following incidents in Pickering and Oshawa earlier this year.
All allegations have not yet been proven in court.
