Drivers in Ajax should prepare for Ajax bus rapid transit construction lane restrictions beginning Monday as work continues on the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project along Kingston Road.

According to the Region of Durham, the construction will take place between Harwood Avenue and Galea Drive, where crews will carry out major infrastructure work related to the new rapid transit corridor.

Officials say the next phase of the Ajax bus rapid transit construction lane restrictions will begin Monday, March 9, and is expected to continue until the end of April.

During this period, contractors will conduct continuous construction activities 24 hours a day, starting at 7 a.m. Monday and continuing until 7 a.m. Saturday each week.

The extended work schedule is necessary to complete sanitary sewer microtunnelling installation, a critical component of the transit project.

Additional work along the corridor will include watermain construction and underground infrastructure installation.

Regional officials noted that weather conditions may affect the schedule, meaning timelines could change depending on construction progress and environmental factors.

Lane Closures Along Kingston Road

As part of the project, the Ajax bus rapid transit construction lane restrictions will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction during non-peak hours along Kingston Road.

These temporary lane closures are expected to create traffic delays for drivers travelling through the area.

Motorists are being asked to plan extra travel time and remain cautious when passing through construction zones.

The Region of Durham is reminding drivers to watch for construction workers, equipment and temporary traffic control measures along the roadway.

Local residents and businesses located along Kingston Road may notice increased activity due to the around-the-clock construction work.
