A 65-year-old man has died after an Ajax taxi crash involving a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, Durham police say.
The two-vehicle collision occurred near Bayly Street East and Clayton Road at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Monday, September 14.
Passenger died in hospital
According to police, the man was a passenger in the accessible taxi. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a Toronto-area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have not released the man’s name. Their initial report did not identify the other vehicle, describe how the collision occurred or announce any charge.
Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch and Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene. The intersection is east of Audley Road South.
Witnesses asked to contact police
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the Ajax taxi crash or has information about it to contact the assigned detective constable. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains active. Police have not assigned fault, and no conclusion about the cause should be drawn from the vehicles’ positions or location alone.
This is separate from the September 14 Whitby collision involving a mobility scooter rider.
