Durham Regional Police are investigating a disturbing incident that occurred in downtown Oshawa on the evening of March 19, 2026, where a security guard was assaulted after attempting to intervene in a parking dispute.
The incident unfolded at approximately 10:00 p.m. at the Mary Street Parkade, a public parking structure located in Oshawa’s downtown area. According to police reports, the incident began when a male suspect attempted to block and damage a vehicle that was attempting to exit the parking structure. The situation escalated when the suspect’s actions were noticed by a security guard, who took it upon himself to intervene.
In an effort to stop the suspect from causing further damage, the security guard attempted to control the situation. However, the situation quickly became violent. The suspect reportedly assaulted the security guard, causing injury before fleeing the scene.
The injured security guard was able to provide a description of the suspect before receiving medical attention. Police arrived shortly after the altercation, but the suspect had already fled the area.
According to Durham Regional Police, the suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 30 to 45 years old. He has a large build and is said to have black hair and a black beard. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a black hoodie and grey pants.
The security guard, who was attempting to protect the property and ensure the safety of others in the area, has been commended for his bravery in stepping in to try to resolve the situation, despite the violent outcome. Thankfully, the injuries sustained by the security guard were non-life-threatening, and he is currently recovering from the incident.
