The DRPS youth grad support events are returning to Oshawa this spring, providing valuable assistance to students preparing for graduation celebrations. Organized by the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), these initiatives are designed to ensure that all youth can attend their graduation events with confidence, regardless of financial challenges.

Graduation season often brings significant expenses, including formal clothing, accessories, and personal grooming services. For many families, these costs can become a barrier. To address this, DRPS is once again hosting two key programs: Gowns for Grads and Suits for Youth, both aimed at supporting students across Durham Region.

The DRPS youth grad support events focus on making graduation accessible for everyone. Gowns for Grads provides free dresses, shoes, and accessories for students attending prom or graduation. The program also welcomes donations of gift certificates for services such as hairstyling, makeup, spas, and florists, helping students feel fully prepared for their special day.

Suits for Youth complements this initiative by offering young people suits, jackets, shirts, ties, and other formal wear. These items are not only useful for graduation events but can also support students in job interviews and future career opportunities. By providing professional attire, the program helps build confidence and long-term readiness.

Community involvement plays a vital role in the success of these initiatives. DRPS is currently accepting donations of new or gently used formal wear, including dresses, suits, and accessories. Donations can be dropped off at any DRPS division before April 6, 2026. Additionally, suit donations can be delivered to Oshawa Centre Guest Services for convenience.

The upcoming DRPS youth grad support events will take place at two locations in Oshawa. Gowns for Grads is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at G.L. Roberts Collegiate and Vocational Institute, located at 399 Chaleur Avenue. Suits for Youth will be held earlier on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oshawa Centre, 419 King Street West, near the lower-level food court entrance.

These events demonstrate DRPS’s continued commitment to supporting youth in meaningful ways beyond traditional policing. By addressing financial barriers, the initiatives ensure that every student has the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and participate in graduation milestones.

Residents, businesses, and community organizations are encouraged to contribute by donating items or spreading awareness about the programs. Those interested in supporting or learning more can contact organizers directly through the provided email addresses.

With strong community support, the DRPS youth grad support events continue to make a positive impact in Oshawa, helping students celebrate graduation with dignity, confidence, and pride.
