A significant development has emerged in a disturbing human trafficking investigation in Oshawa, as Durham Regional Police have arrested a second suspect following an extensive eight-month search. The case highlights ongoing concerns about exploitation and human trafficking within Durham Region, particularly involving vulnerable individuals.

The investigation was launched in May 2025 by the Durham Police Human Trafficking Unit after serious allegations surfaced regarding the exploitation of a young woman. According to police, the victim first met the suspects in Oshawa in February 2025, where she was later manipulated and coerced into the sex trade.

Investigators revealed that over a period of several weeks, the victim was forced to engage in sexual acts with multiple individuals in exchange for money. Authorities allege that the suspects exercised control through intimidation, coercion, and exploitation, preventing the victim from leaving the situation.

The case initially led to the arrest of a 46-year-old woman on July 3, 2025, who was charged in connection with the investigation. Following her arrest, police continued their efforts to locate a second suspect believed to have played a key role in the exploitation.

After months of investigative work, members of the Offender Management Unit successfully located and arrested the male suspect on March 12, 2026. His arrest marks a major milestone in the case and reflects the persistence of Durham police in addressing serious criminal activity.

The accused, Yvenord Hyacinthe, 44, of Oshawa, is now facing multiple charges, including assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, robbery, extortion, and procuring. These charges reflect the severity of the alleged offences and the level of harm inflicted on the victim.

Police have confirmed that the accused was held for a bail hearing, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are continuing to examine evidence and are not ruling out the possibility of additional victims or charges.

Human trafficking remains a serious issue across Ontario, and Durham Region is not immune to these crimes. Police emphasize that such cases often involve vulnerable individuals who are targeted, manipulated, and controlled by offenders seeking financial gain.

Durham Regional Police are urging anyone with information related to this case or similar incidents to come forward. Community cooperation is considered essential in identifying victims, supporting investigations, and preventing further exploitation.

Residents can contact the Human Trafficking Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5600. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online.

Authorities continue to work alongside community organizations and support services to assist victims and raise awareness about the warning signs of human trafficking.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance, awareness, and community involvement in addressing and preventing human trafficking in Durham Region.
