An elderly woman has died after being struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon in Whitby, according to Durham police.
The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said officers from Central West Division responded to a pedestrian collision at the intersection of Brock Street North and Mary Street West on Friday, January 9, at approximately 1:15 p.m.
Police said an 82-year-old woman was attempting to cross the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The woman was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries, police confirmed.
Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
