Durham Regional Police say officers were called to the intersection of Brock Street North and Mary Street West at approximately 1:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
Investigators said an 82-year-old woman was crossing the roadway when she was hit. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
The woman was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition, where she later died from her injuries.
The roadway was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation.
