All school bus transportation has been cancelled across Durham Region today, Tuesday, January 6, due to forecasted freezing rain.
According to school transportation officials, the decision was made as Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for southern Ontario, with up to five millimetres of ice accumulation possible in some areas.
Despite the cancellations, all schools in Durham Region remain open to students and staff.
The cancellations are part of a broader response across southern Ontario, where several regions—including Peel, Halton, and York—also suspended school bus services due to hazardous road conditions.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and exercise caution when travelling. Families choosing to keep children home are advised to follow their school board’s absence reporting procedures.
