Durham caregiver support is included in a broader Greater Toronto Area initiative receiving $213,700 over three years through Ontario Families for Disability Justice.
Durham Post identified the regional connection in its November 5 report. Ontario’s November 4 funding announcement confirms the amount, recipient and wider service area; it does not allocate the entire grant to Durham alone.
Help navigating services
The initiative is intended for parents, guardians and caregivers of children and youth with autism or intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Planned supports include peer circles, educational workshops, crisis navigation and help finding a way through education, health, mental-health, child-welfare and justice services. The aim is to strengthen caregivers’ knowledge and confidence as they advocate for their children.
Part of provincial youth funding
The grant forms part of more than $13 million announced through the Youth Opportunities Fund for nearly 40 projects. The Ontario Trillium Foundation delivers the programme.
The announcement does not give a Durham-specific venue, participant intake date or registration link for this project. It should not be read as a promise of a cash payment to individual families.
The new grant is the subject of this Durham caregiver support update, rather than an announcement of a new local clinic or a change in disability-benefit eligibility.
