The Pickering rabies clinic returns on Saturday, November 14, offering low-cost vaccination and microchip services at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex.

The City of Pickering lists a cost of $30 for each service, with cash preferred. The clinic is first come, first served, and no appointment is necessary.

Cats-only hour comes first

The clinic will be held in the O’Brien Room at 1867 Valley Farm Road. The first hour, from 11 a.m. to noon, is reserved for cats. Dogs and cats can attend from noon until 3 p.m.

The city says the separate first hour is intended to reduce stress for cats. Owners should plan their visit around the appropriate period rather than assume dogs can attend at opening time.

Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in carriers. The city also says dogs with pit-bull characteristics under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act must wear a muzzle.

The $30 amount is per service, not a combined price for both vaccination and microchipping. The city’s notice does not advertise appointment bookings or guarantee a particular waiting time.

Current notice confirms a November event

The Pickering rabies clinic is supported by Durham Region Health Department and participating veterinary clinic Millennium City. Its November 14 date and 3 p.m. closing time come from the current city notice.

All About Durham covered an earlier Pickering clinic in April. That was a separate event; residents attending in November should use the current schedule rather than the older article’s closing time.

Daily Durham also reported the November clinic on October 22. The details in this report were checked directly against the city’s rabies prevention page.

Pet owners can consult that page for the event poster and any changes before travelling. Questions about an individual animal’s vaccination needs should be directed to a veterinarian.
