Durham highway closures include 26 scheduled work zones on provincial routes, with overnight and daytime restrictions affecting drivers through early and mid-October.
The current schedule covers sections of Highways 401, 12, 35, 35/115, 7/12 and 7A. Drivers should check Ontario 511 before travelling because lane restrictions can change with construction progress and weather.
Highway 401 work spans Durham
In Ajax, overnight work is scheduled on the Highway 401 express lanes around Westney Road. Up to four alternating lanes are listed for closure in each direction on nights through October 14.
Pickering work includes an eastbound right-lane closure between Whites Road and Brock Road from 11 p.m. October 5 to 6 a.m. October 6. Two eastbound express lanes are also scheduled to close over the same section beginning at 10 p.m.
In Oshawa, two alternating eastbound lanes between Ritson Road and Harmony Road are scheduled to close nightly from October 4 through October 9. Matching westbound restrictions between Harmony and Ritson are also planned during that period.
Clarington drivers face daytime westbound restrictions between Highway 35/115 and Liberty Street from October 5 through October 9. Overnight work is also listed on Highway 35/115 northbound near Highway 401.
North Durham routes also affected
On Highway 7/12, one southbound lane between Brock Township’s Second Line and Highway 7A in Scugog is scheduled to remain closed during daytime work through October 8. One northbound lane between Blue Mountain Road and Second Line is listed through October 9.
The schedule also included a Highway 7A restriction between Queen Street and Highway 7/12 in Port Perry ending early October 3. Some entries in the broader list cover work beyond Durham’s boundaries or dates later in October and November.
Drivers should verify before leaving
The Durham highway closures are planned construction restrictions, not continuous full shutdowns in every case. Most involve one or more alternating lanes during defined overnight or daytime periods.
Motorists should allow extra travel time, slow down around crews and follow temporary signs. Ontario 511 provides the latest provincial road conditions, closures and construction information.
