Two Uxbridge doctors have published Family Rooms, a new book about the work and rewards of rural family medicine.
Dr. Jenn Wilson and Dr. Carlye Jensen draw on two decades of working together in Uxbridge, including experiences connected with Uxbridge Hospital and community practice.
Book offers a view inside family medicine
Family Rooms: Inside Family Medicine uses first-hand stories to describe dramatic, humorous and difficult moments in patient care. The authors say they wanted to explain how family doctors make decisions and why continuity of care matters.
Wilson and Jensen also hope the book challenges the idea that family medicine is a fallback rather than a specialty. Their account is intended to show medical students and the public the range of work handled by family physicians in a rural community.
The doctors told the Uxbridge Cosmos that long-term patient relationships and seeing the effect of their work are important parts of their careers.
Uxbridge book launch planned for September 27
A launch is scheduled Sunday, September 27, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Mill Run Golf Course. Organizers plan a brief reading and will have copies available to purchase.
