New Pickering Kingston Road BRT restrictions are planned between Steeple Hill and Merritton Road as work advances on the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit corridor.
Durham Radio News reported the new construction stage on September 24. Detailed staging information says Kingston Road will be reduced to one eastbound lane and two westbound lanes from late October 2026 through summer 2027 while major wastewater work is completed.
Longer restrictions planned at two intersections
In late 2027, the road is expected to narrow to one lane in each direction at Whites Road and Fairport Road so crews can build transit-stop platforms. Bus routes, bus stops, sidewalks and access to businesses are expected to remain open.
The published report contains an internally inconsistent top-line date range, but its detailed schedule consistently identifies the late-October 2026, summer 2027 and late-2027 stages. All About Durham has reported those detailed milestones and not repeated the contradictory range.
