Three Durham ID and Benefits Hubs will offer one-on-one help in Whitby, Ajax and Bowmanville this October.
The Region of Durham announced the fall sessions on September 22. Staff and community partners will help residents navigate government benefits, replace identification, complete forms and find local services.
Hub dates in Whitby, Ajax and Bowmanville
- Whitby: October 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Whitby Public Library, 405 Dundas Street West.
- Ajax: October 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ajax Public Library, 55 Harwood Avenue South.
- Bowmanville: October 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Clarington Library, Museums and Archives, 163 Church Street.
Residents can ask about programs including the Canada Pension Plan, Canadian Dental Care Plan, Canada Disability Benefit, Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program.
Identification, tax and service help available
The hubs can assist people seeking a Social Insurance Number, birth certificate or health card. The Region said birth certificates may be free for eligible low-income residents. Fees may apply for photo identification and driver’s licences.
People with no income or a modest income may also be able to get help filing a simple tax return. Appointments may be required for tax filing, and visitors should review the Region’s hub page before attending.
Other assistance includes forms, applications and referrals involving housing, food, employment, transit, social services and mental health. Food hampers will be available while supplies last.
