Construction of the new Uxbridge Aquatic Centre has reached a major milestone, with work now moving above ground while residents continue using the township’s existing pool.
The Township of Uxbridge says crews began installing structural arches at the new Aquatic and Sports Complex during the week of Aug. 17, marking the beginning of another major stage of construction.
The existing UxPool remains open during this first phase, with public swimming, lessons and aquatic programs continuing as usual.
Uxbridge Aquatic Centre Expected to Open Spring 2027
According to the Township’s latest project timeline, the new aquatic centre is scheduled to open in spring 2027.
Once the new pool is ready, the existing facility is expected to close and be demolished in March 2027, allowing Phase 2 of the recreation project to proceed.
Construction of the new gymnasium is scheduled to begin in spring 2027, with its opening currently targeted for summer 2027.
The Township says there could be a short transition period when neither aquatic facility is available, but officials intend to keep that closure as brief as possible.
Existing Uxbridge Pool Staying Open
For now, residents can continue using UxPool normally.
The Township’s current swimming schedule continues to include lane swimming, family swims, seniors swimming and aquafitness programs.
UxPool is expected to remain operational throughout Phase 1 before its planned demolition.
Project Remains on Time and Budget
Uxbridge officials say the Aquatic and Sports Complex remains on time and on track with its projected budget. The Township also repeated that assessment in its 2026 mid-year report to council.
The new facility is expected to have a lifespan of approximately 50 years.
Its structural design includes corrosion-resistant aluminum components intended to withstand demanding weather conditions, while an airtight building design is intended to reduce heating and cooling requirements compared with conventional construction.
The Uxbridge Aquatic Centre is expected to welcome its first users in spring 2027, followed by completion of the gymnasium phase later in the year.
