Hundreds of classic and rare vehicles will fill downtown Oshawa on Friday, Aug. 21, as the popular Kars on King event returns for another year.
The free event runs from 3:30 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m., with activities stretching across several downtown streets between John Street and Bond Street.
Organizers expect about 400 vehicles from private owners, the Mustang and Corvette clubs of Durham, and other collections to be displayed throughout the downtown core.
Classic Cars Take Over Downtown Oshawa
Classic vehicles will be displayed along Bond, King, Athol, Debwewin Miikan, Metcalfe, Simcoe, Celina, Ontario and Victoria streets.
Visitors will have an opportunity to view a wide range of vintage and specialty vehicles, with some displays allowing guests to get a closer look inside.
The Tribute Communities Centre will also host a free Touch a Truck event from 4 to 8 p.m. outside the arena. Donations will be accepted in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Durham.
The Canadian Automotive Museum will extend its hours until 9 p.m. for the occasion, although regular museum admission fees will apply.
Live Music and Family Activities
Kars on King will include activities beyond the car displays.
Families can visit Veterans Square for arts and crafts, face painting, balloon art and an antique car carousel. Other attractions include backyard games, inflatable bouncy castles and a zip line along Simcoe Street.
Live entertainment will also be featured throughout the afternoon and evening.
The Fabulous Tonemasters are scheduled to perform at 3:30 p.m., followed by Kim & Co. at 5:45 p.m. and Rolling Stones tribute band The Blushing Brides at 7:30 p.m.
Additional entertainment will include Rhythm Works drumming performances and an Elvis impersonator.
Food vendors, local artisans and community organizations will also have booths throughout downtown Oshawa.
Road Closures Planned for Kars on King
Several downtown roads will be closed before, during and after the event.
Bond Street between Ontario Street and Prince Street and Simcoe Street North between King Street and Richmond Street West will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. These sections will close again after the event until 11 a.m. Saturday.
Additional closures will be in place from 1 to 11 p.m. on sections of Bond Street, Simcoe Street, King Street, Ontario Street, Victoria Street, Albert Street, Celina Street, Athol Street, Debwewin Miikan, Bruce Street and Metcalfe Street.
Charles Street between Athol Street and Bruce Street will also be closed from 2 to 8:30 p.m. for the Touch a Truck event.
Drivers travelling through downtown Oshawa on Friday should expect delays and consider alternate routes.
