Construction has officially started on the new Beaverton Dog Park, giving Brock Township dog owners a dedicated off-leash space that is expected to be ready by the end of August.
Work began Monday on the long-anticipated Mill Gate Dog Park in Beaverton.
The project will include fencing, entrance gates and separate areas designed for large and small dogs.
According to the information released, crews are expected to complete the main construction work before the end of the month.
Once finished, the park will provide local residents with a purpose-built area where dogs can exercise and socialize in a controlled environment.
Separate Areas Planned for Large and Small Dogs
One of the key features of the new Beaverton Dog Park will be the separation of dogs based on size.
The larger fenced section will cover approximately 26,650 square feet and will be intended for larger dogs.
A second fenced area measuring approximately 2,600 square feet will be designated for smaller dogs.
Having separate areas can help provide a more comfortable experience for pet owners whose smaller dogs may not be suited to sharing an off-leash space with larger breeds.
The park will also feature double capture gates at the entrances.
These types of gate systems create an enclosed transition area between the outside of the park and the off-leash zone, helping reduce the chance of dogs escaping when other visitors are entering or leaving.
Construction Expected to Wrap Up by End of August
Initial construction work includes installing posts and fencing around the designated dog park areas.
The project schedule calls for completion by the end of August, meaning residents could have access to the new facility before the end of the summer season.
Additional amenities will be installed once the primary construction work is finished.
These will include benches, picnic tables and garbage containers.
The added seating will provide areas for dog owners to rest while their pets use the park, while waste containers will help visitors keep the site clean.
New Recreation Option for Brock Township Pet Owners
The Beaverton Dog Park will add a new outdoor recreation amenity for residents in the northern Durham community.
Dog parks can provide pet owners with an alternative to walking exclusively on a leash by offering a designated space where dogs can move freely.
For some residents, the facility could also provide a social setting where neighbours and other pet owners can meet while their dogs exercise.
The large size of the main enclosure should provide significant room for larger dogs to run and play.
Meanwhile, the dedicated smaller-dog section gives owners an option designed specifically for pets that may be more comfortable in a separate area.
Mill Gate Dog Park Nearing Completion
The Mill Gate project has been anticipated by local dog owners, and the start of construction represents a significant step toward opening the facility.
Once fencing and entrance systems are completed, benches, picnic tables and waste bins will finish the basic park setup.
No exact public opening date was included in the initial announcement beyond the expectation that construction will be finished by the end of August.
Residents should therefore watch for an official opening notice from Brock Township before using the site.
When completed, the new Beaverton Dog Park will provide separate fenced areas for different dog sizes, secure entrance gates and basic amenities for owners, creating a new dedicated pet recreation space in Brock Township.
