Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians in Clarington will need to plan alternate routes as a section of Bloor Street in Courtice is scheduled to close for approximately two weeks to allow for sewer infrastructure work.

The Municipality of Clarington has announced that a portion of Bloor Street will be fully closed beginning Monday, June 22, as crews undertake sewer installation activities in the area. The closure is expected to remain in place until July 6, weather and construction conditions permitting.

According to municipal officials, the affected section extends from Courtice Road to approximately 60 metres east of the intersection. During the construction period, a hard closure will be in effect, meaning there will be no access through the work zone for motorists, cyclists, or pedestrians.

The closure is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements designed to support growth and maintain essential municipal services in the Courtice area. Sewer installation projects are critical components of community development, helping ensure wastewater systems can accommodate current and future residential and commercial needs.

Municipal staff say the complete closure is necessary to allow crews to safely carry out excavation, installation, and restoration work while minimizing risks to both workers and the public. Due to the nature of the construction, maintaining access through the work zone is not possible during the project.

Residents who regularly travel through the area are encouraged to prepare for traffic disruptions and allow additional travel time throughout the construction period. Drivers may experience increased congestion on nearby roads as traffic is redirected around the closure zone.

The Municipality of Clarington is advising all road users to follow posted detour signs and use alternative routes whenever possible. Local traffic patterns may change during construction, and motorists are reminded to exercise caution when travelling through surrounding neighbourhoods.

Cyclists and pedestrians who normally use Bloor Street are also encouraged to plan alternate travel routes, as access through the work area will be completely restricted. Officials emphasize that the closure applies to all forms of transportation in order to maintain safety throughout the project.

Infrastructure upgrades such as sewer installations play an important role in supporting continued growth within Clarington. As communities such as Courtice continue to expand, municipalities must invest in underground services that provide reliable wastewater management and support future development opportunities.

Construction projects can create temporary inconvenience for residents and businesses, but municipal officials note that the improvements are intended to provide long-term benefits to the community. Upgraded sewer systems help improve service reliability, support future housing developments, and ensure infrastructure keeps pace with population growth.

Businesses and residents located near the construction zone may experience temporary disruptions during the project. However, municipal staff continue to work closely with contractors to minimize impacts wherever possible while maintaining construction schedules.

The closure also serves as a reminder of the ongoing infrastructure investments taking place throughout Durham Region as municipalities continue to upgrade roads, bridges, water systems, and wastewater facilities. These projects are considered essential to supporting both current residents and future growth.

Motorists travelling through Courtice during the closure period are encouraged to monitor municipal updates for any changes to construction timelines or traffic management plans. Weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances can occasionally affect project schedules.

For now, residents should prepare for the closure beginning June 22 and plan alternative routes until the project is completed. Once construction concludes, Bloor Street is expected to reopen fully to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The Municipality of Clarington continues to thank residents for their patience and cooperation as crews complete the necessary infrastructure work designed to strengthen community services and support future development throughout the area.
