Durham Region soccer fans will not have to travel far to catch the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with watch parties planned across Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, and Oshawa as Canada takes the world stage on home soil.

Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto’s BMO Field is set for June 12, and communities across Durham are rolling out the red and white carpet for fans of all ages to come together and cheer on the Canadian Men’s National Team.

In Whitby, the town has partnered with Whitby FC soccer club to host watch parties at Whitby Civic Park on June 12 for the opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and on June 18 at Whitby FC for the game against Qatar from Vancouver. The events will feature large screens, food vendors, family activities, and entertainment for fans to enjoy while taking in the action.

The Town of Ajax is going all in, encouraging fans to attend free outdoor watch parties for all three of Canada’s first-round matches. The festivities kick off June 12 at the Ajax Fairgrounds for the Bosnia and Herzegovina game, followed by gatherings at Pat Bayly Square on June 18 for the Qatar match and June 24 for the Switzerland contest. Food vendors, family activities, and entertainment will be on hand at all three events.

The City of Pickering is teaming up with Pickering Football Club for a series of World Cup watch parties. On June 12, fans can head to the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex lobby for Canada versus Bosnia and Herzegovina with a 3 p.m. kickoff. On June 18, the action moves to the Pickering Soccer Centre for the 6 p.m. match against Qatar. The June 24 showdown against Switzerland returns to the recreation complex lobby at 3 p.m. Residents are encouraged to wear red and white, bring their Canada gear, and join in cheering on the home side. Free snacks, games, and prizes will be available at each event.

If Team Canada advances past the group stage, the city says more watch parties will be added to the schedule.

Oshawa is also getting in on the World Cup fever, with several local pubs and venues hosting events. North End Bowl, known locally as NEBS, is pulling out all the stops for Canada’s opening match on Friday, combining its colossal 181-inch TV with a brand-new 100-inch screen plus two 75-inch televisions and a 65-inch set to deliver wall-to-wall soccer coverage. Free Powerade will be available while supplies last, along with giveaways throughout the match.

OPG is also hosting watch parties at several of its sites, including the Darlington Nuclear Information Centre in Courtice for a quarter-final match on July 4 and the World Cup Final at the Pickering Nuclear Information Centre on July 19.

With Canada co-hosting the tournament alongside the United States and Mexico, the 2026 World Cup represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Durham Region fans to experience the planet’s biggest sporting event in their own backyard. Whether you are a die-hard soccer supporter or simply looking for a fun community event, the watch parties across Durham offer something for everyone.
