Highway 407 Loyalty Points Still in Limbo

Highway 407 ETR drivers in Durham Region and across the Greater Toronto Area are still waiting for details on a promised loyalty points program that was first announced last November, with the toll highway operator offering no new information on when the rewards system will actually launch.

When Highway 407 ETR unveiled a slate of toll rate and fee changes set to take effect in January 2026, it also announced plans to introduce a loyalty program that would allow drivers to earn and redeem points on their trips through the 407 ETR mobile app. The November press release described the program as part of the company’s broader commitment to delivering value for customers who use the highway regularly.

At the time of the announcement, a spokesperson confirmed that customers would be able to redeem points for free travel on the highway, with everything managed directly through the 407 ETR app. The company encouraged drivers to create a My Account and download the mobile app to be among the first to access the loyalty program when it launched.

In February, when pressed for an update on the program’s progress, a 407 ETR spokesperson said they did not have additional information to share but indicated that more details would be released in the spring. With just over three weeks remaining before summer officially arrives on June 21, the window for a spring announcement is narrowing quickly and patience among frequent users is wearing thin.

When contacted again this week, a 407 ETR spokesperson repeated that the company has no new information to share about the loyalty program’s development. The spokesperson acknowledged the ongoing interest in the program and said the company would make sure drivers are the first to know when there are meaningful updates to share.

It remains unclear exactly how the points system will work, what the earning structure will look like, how many points a typical trip would generate, and when drivers can expect to start accumulating and redeeming their rewards. What has been confirmed is that the program will eventually allow for some free trips on the toll highway.

For Durham Region commuters who use Highway 407 ETR regularly to bypass heavy traffic on parallel routes such as Highway 401 and local arterial roads, the loyalty program could offer meaningful savings over time. The highway serves as a critical east-west corridor connecting communities from Pickering through Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, and into Clarington, making it an essential route for thousands of daily commuters.

In the meantime, Highway 407 ETR has expanded its driving offers program, which covers all tolls, camera charges, and account fees for eligible drivers. The company says it plans to send at least 1.8 million drivers an offer each month. To qualify, customers need an active My Account with no past-due balance. Drivers can check their online account to see if they have received a promotional offer.

While the loyalty points program remains in limbo with no firm launch date in sight, the expanded driving offers provide at least some financial relief for frequent 407 users across Durham Region who continue to pay some of the highest per-kilometre toll rates in North America.
