The Region of Durham is advising residents of multiple roadwork projects across the region this spring, including lane restrictions, road closures, and a potential new roundabout that could affect daily commutes.

Several Durham Region road impacts are currently underway, with projects spanning Scugog, Uxbridge, Whitby, Clarington, Oshawa, Brock and Pickering. Drivers should plan routes carefully and expect delays in affected areas throughout the coming weeks and months.

In Scugog Township, lane restrictions are now in effect on Island Road (Regional Road 7) from Fralicks Beach Road to Hood Drive. The restrictions began May 19 and will remain in place through June as crews work to rehabilitate the roadway surface and improve driving conditions for area residents.

Also in Scugog, Shirley Road (Regional Road 19) has lane restrictions until the end of May from 50 metres west of Old Scugog Road to 35 metres west of Regional Road 57 for road rehabilitation. Regional Road 57 itself faces lane restrictions through the end of July, spanning from 70 metres south of Shirley Road to 700 metres north of Edgerton Road, for repaving, new road shoulders, and steel guide rail replacement.

Uxbridge residents are invited to share feedback on a proposed single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Brock Road (Regional Road 1) and Goodwood Road (Regional Road 21). The project includes converting the existing intersection into a roundabout and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Region says the improvements will enhance long-term traffic flow, reduce intersection delays, and improve safety for all road users. A public information package with preliminary design details is available on the Durham Region website.

In Whitby, Thickson Road in Village Brooklin has lane restrictions through July 31 from Carnwith Drive East to Baldwin Street North for watermain installation supporting new residential development in the growing community.

Courtice Road in Clarington is fully closed around the clock until July 3 for sanitary sewer installation from Bloor Street (Regional Road 22) to 585 metres north of Baseline Road West in Courtice. Local resident access is maintained throughout the work, detour routes are posted, and businesses in the area remain open for the duration of construction.

In Oshawa, Farewell Street (Regional Road 56) is undergoing significant reconstruction with lane restrictions and a road closure through December 2026. The closure runs from Wentworth Street East (Regional Road 60) to Harbour Road with local traffic access maintained. Lane restrictions extend from Bloor Street East to Wentworth Street East. The full reconstruction project is expected to be completed by September 2027.

In Brock Township, Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23) has lane restrictions through the end of June from 55 metres north of Highway 48 to 200 metres north of Thorah Park Boulevard for road rehabilitation.

Pickering faces ongoing lane restrictions on Brock Road (Regional Road 1) until May 29 from north of Williams Jackson Drive and Dersan Street to south of Rex Heath Drive and Zents Drive to accommodate new development construction.

The Region notes that unfavourable weather conditions may affect project schedules. Residents experiencing these Durham Region road impacts should check the Durham Region website for the latest schedule updates and plan alternate routes where possible.
