A teenage girl is in a Toronto-area trauma center following a distressing Ajax pedestrian collision that took place during the Thursday afternoon commute. According to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), the incident occurred at approximately 2:25 p.m. on April 23, 2026, near the intersection of Harwood Avenue North and Rossland Road East. A 16-year-old female was attempting to cross the area when she was struck by a southbound vehicle. Emergency crews arrived quickly to find the teen with serious injuries; she was stabilized on-site before being rushed to a specialized trauma unit for emergency treatment.

The vehicle involved in the Ajax pedestrian collision has been identified as a Mini Cooper. The driver, a 48-year-old individual, remained at the scene following the impact and is said to be cooperating with investigators. While the driver did not report any physical injuries, the intersection remained closed for several hours while the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) documented the scene and analyzed tire marks and vehicle damage. As of Friday morning, police have not provided a further update on the condition of the young victim, though her injuries were initially described as life-threatening.

The Harwood and Rossland intersection is a high-traffic hub in Ajax, frequently used by students and commuters. This Ajax pedestrian collision has reignited local concerns regarding pedestrian safety and visibility in the area, particularly during peak school dismissal hours. The CIU is currently looking into all contributing factors, including vehicle speed, weather conditions at the time of the crash, and whether the pedestrian was within a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred. No charges have been laid at this stage, as the investigation remains in its preliminary phase.

Durham Regional Police are making an urgent appeal to the public for any additional evidence. Specifically, they are asking anyone who was in the vicinity of Harwood Avenue North and Rossland Road East between 2:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. yesterday to check their dashcam or cellphone footage. Witnesses who saw the Mini Cooper prior to the collision are also encouraged to come forward. “Even a small piece of information can be vital in helping us reconstruct the events that led to this tragedy,” a police spokesperson noted.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Collision Investigation Unit directly at 905-579-1520. For those who wish to provide an anonymous tip, Durham Regional Crime Stoppers is available at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through their website. As the community waits for news on the 16-year-old’s recovery, this incident serves as a stark reminder for both motorists and pedestrians to remain extra vigilant at busy municipal intersections.
