Durham Regional Police and Crime Stoppers are offering a $15,000 reward for information related to the 2023 Oshawa parking lot murder of a local man as investigators continue to search for the suspects responsible for the fatal shooting.
The victim, 30-year-old Michael Nigris of Oshawa, was shot and killed on the evening of March 30, 2023, in the parking lot of Teddy’s Plaza, located at the intersection of Park Road and King Street in Oshawa.
Police say officers were called to the scene at approximately 8:24 p.m. after receiving reports of multiple gunshots in the area.
When emergency responders arrived, they discovered Nigris suffering from gunshot wounds outside Cash Converters, a second-hand store owned by the victim’s family.
Emergency crews immediately attempted life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, Nigris died at the scene.
Since the shooting, members of the Durham Regional Police Service Homicide Unit have conducted an extensive investigation, reviewing hundreds of hours of surveillance footage and interviewing multiple witnesses.
Police say detectives have pursued numerous investigative leads and continue working to identify and arrest the suspects involved.
Investigators believe the primary suspect fled the scene in a stolen black Ford F150 Raptor pickup truck. The vehicle was later recovered a short time later on Dundee Avenue in Oshawa.
Police units including Air1 (the police helicopter) and K9 teams were deployed to search the area after the vehicle was located, but the suspect was able to escape.
Authorities say a second suspect has connections to the stolen vehicle, which investigators believe was used as the getaway vehicle following the shooting.
According to Durham Regional Police, both suspects have links to the Keele Street and Lawrence Avenue West area in Toronto, suggesting the individuals may have traveled from outside Durham Region.
In an effort to generate new information, investigators held a public press conference in 2024, where they released photographs and detailed descriptions of the suspects.
Despite these efforts, the case remains unsolved, though police emphasize that the investigation is still active.
Durham Regional Crime Stoppers has now announced a $15,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for the murder of Michael Nigris.
Police have released descriptions of the two suspects believed to be involved.
The first suspect is described as a Black male wearing a black surgical mask, dark hooded sweatshirt with a Puma logo, black Puma jogging pants and black Air Force One running shoes.
The second suspect is described as a Black male with short dreadlock-style hair. He was wearing glasses, a black hooded sweatshirt with the word “Champion” printed in white on the front, black pants and black running shoes.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have video footage, surveillance recordings or information about the suspects to come forward.
Police say even small pieces of information could help move the investigation forward.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online.
Tipsters can remain completely anonymous and may be eligible for the $15,000 reward if their information leads to an arrest.
Individuals who wish to speak directly with investigators can contact Detective Constable D’Andrea of the Durham Regional Police Homicide Unit.
Police continue to urge the public to assist in solving the 2023 Oshawa parking lot murder, as investigators remain committed to bringing justice to the victim and his family.
