A 15-year-old male is in custody following a series of armed robberies at convenience stores in Bowmanville, Durham Regional Police say.

Police allege the suspect was involved in three separate incidents in the Municipality of Clarington over the past several weeks. The first occurred on Saturday, December 13, at approximately 8:15 p.m., when a male entered the Circle K located at 180 King Street East and demanded cash while armed with two large knives.

The suspect is also accused of committing two armed robberies at Liberty Best Variety, located at 83 Liberty Street South. Police said the first incident took place on Saturday, January 3, around 6:10 p.m., when the suspect demanded cash while pointing a firearm at an employee. A similar incident occurred on Monday, January 5, at approximately 8:50 p.m., when the suspect returned to the same store and again demanded cash.

During the January 5 incident, officers located and arrested the suspect a short distance away. The firearm was later determined to be an imitation handgun.

No physical injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

The accused, a 15-year-old male from Clarington, was held for a bail hearing. Police noted that the individual’s name and additional details are available through the Durham Regional Police Service.

Anyone with cellphone, dash camera, surveillance footage, or information related to these incidents is asked to contact the DRPS Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5355.

Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not publish the names of accused individuals prior to conviction, as charges may be amended or withdrawn.
