The Whitby heritage property designation of the Graydon Goodfellow House at 618 Athol Street has officially been approved by the Town of Whitby under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.
Known colloquially as the “Hardy Boys House,” this property holds historical significance due to its connection to Leslie McFarlane, the original author of the Hardy Boys books under the pen name Franklin W. Dixon. McFarlane rented the house for an 11-month period starting on October 1, 1936, and wrote at least one of the Hardy Boys books, “A Figure in Hiding,” during his time at the property.
The house’s heritage designation ensures that any changes to the building will respect its historical value and comply with the Town of Whitby’s heritage permit processes.
Any Notice of Appeal on the Town Council’s decision must be filed by 4:30 p.m. on March 6, 2026.
