Recent Whitby council decisions include a request for another public meeting on the proposed transit-oriented community at Whitby GO Station.
Council wants Infrastructure Ontario to hold the meeting in fall 2026 or early 2027. The proposal includes six towers with about 2,355 apartments, a park, retail and commercial space, public areas and direct transit connections.
Staff will also review stronger maintenance standards for dormant development sites, including proactive inspections. The motion identifies overgrowth, debris, graffiti, standing water, dust and erosion as potential neighbourhood impacts.
A proposed data-centre planning review was referred to the next council term. Staff said limited electrical infrastructure makes an application before 2032 unlikely and estimated the requested study at about $100,000.
Economic Development staff must also prepare an interim report on attracting defence contractors and advanced manufacturers. Possible actions include site readiness, workforce development, infrastructure planning and investment marketing.
