Two drivers are being treated for serious injuries following a head-on collision Monday evening in Scugog, Durham police say.
According to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), officers from North Division responded to a collision at the intersection of Lake Ridge Road and Blue Mountain Road on Monday, January 12, at approximately 5 p.m.
Police said a Ford hatchback travelling southbound on Lake Ridge Road collided head-on with a Nissan SUV travelling northbound. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and required extrication from their vehicles.
One driver was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where police said the individual remains in stable condition. The second driver was transported to a local-area hospital for treatment.
Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
The collision remains under investigation.
