Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested seven individuals following a drug trafficking investigation that spanned multiple locations, including Whitby, Napanee, and the Toronto area. The investigation, which was conducted in collaboration with Durham Regional Police, led to the seizure of drugs, firearms, cash, stolen property, and other items associated with drug trafficking.

The investigation culminated in the execution of search warrants at residences in Whitby and Napanee, where police uncovered a significant stash of illegal substances and contraband. According to OPP, the items seized during the search included:

  • 1 kilogram of suspected cocaine

  • Percocet tablets

  • A fully loaded handgun and ammunition

  • Approximately $20,000 in Canadian and U.S. currency

  • About $40,000 worth of stolen jewelry

  • Cellphones, scales, and other materials commonly used in drug trafficking operations.

The investigation has raised concerns over the presence of fentanyl, a potent opioid that has been linked to numerous overdose deaths across Canada. Fentanyl is reportedly 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine, and its presence in the local drug supply has prompted law enforcement agencies to increase vigilance and take preventive action.

In total, seven people, ranging in age from 24 to 55, were arrested and face a variety of drug-related and firearm-related charges. Of the seven individuals, six were held in custody pending a bail hearing, while the seventh was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The OPP and Durham Regional Police have not disclosed the identities of the individuals involved, but they have emphasized that the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and illegal firearms activity in the region. The police are also investigating whether the individuals arrested are connected to other criminal networks involved in the distribution of illicit substances across Ontario.

OPP and Durham Regional Police are continuing their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the province, with a focus on reducing the availability of illegal narcotics and preventing further violence linked to the illicit drug trade.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity they may observe in their neighborhoods. Information can be submitted anonymously through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to arrests or further developments in the case.

The OPP is also encouraging individuals to take precautions against fentanyl exposure and to be aware of the risks associated with the illegal drug trade. Public safety remains a priority, and law enforcement agencies are committed to addressing the growing concerns surrounding drug-related crimes in the province.
